It is important for you to know quite a bit about my company. For example, does my company have the capability to repair or construct what you want done? Ok, I'll give a list below. But, there is more to it. So, let me preface with:
It's kind of boring to simply list trades, types of remodeling and repairs. Most companies do only that. But, that's like all about "me, me, me." This seems boring because it isn't just about what I do, is it?
Isn't it also about how it's done, how much stress it brings, what kinds of stress- maybe also how long it takes? Isn't it about whether it's done in a way you envision and whether the worksite is kept neat? Isn't it about how it holds up over time, and how well it is designed, and how usable it is? Well, you get the idea.
So, here goes. Me and my people are trained and skilled and licensed and insured to do the following. I promise I'll address the foregoing questions too, look in Why Us?.
1. Home Remodeling... some people call it Renovation or Rebuild. Whatever you call it, we do it really well. I'll tell you why I say so in Why Us? and other places.
Our Remodeling includes interior and exterior work, additions, bathroom, kitchen, deck, porch, sunroom, patio, whole house, adding new floor levels, move walls, facelift, design, basement, attic, bedroom suite, mother-in-law suite, recreation room, raise the roof, add a floor, conversion, brighten up, energy upfit, disability or accessibility improvements, usability and aging-in-place design improvement.
2. Home Repair... other things this is called might be Rebuilding, Reconstruction, Replacing, Renovation, Reroofing, Handyman Work, Plumbing, Painting, Electrical, Concrete Work, Re landscape, re Roof, Heating and Cooling, Mechanical, Stone and Brick Work, Floor Refinishing and Replacement and Repair, Deck, Porch, Structural, Window and Door, Drywall or Sheetrock, Lighting (very important in design and for injury prevention as our senses diminish with aging), demolition, removal of unhealthy materials, improving indoor air quality, improving safety, installing and repairing aging or disability aids,
3. Diagnosis and Assessment... I think this is Really Big. It is at the heart of everything I do. My most effective and efficient work (functionally and financially) comes from thorough understanding of existing facts, history, and lifestyle information and preferences. This can be finding the cause of recurring mold or seeing a corelation between increased asthma and a new piece of furniture or to moving into a new house.
For example, with consent of the homeowners, if there are health problems in the home I would want to understand them. Then I would want to understand the existing indoor environment. I do this so I can make sure the construction materials and the work processes don't exaserbate those problems. And I might even be able to take away or lesson the cause of those problems if they are environmental. Are you aware that I can use materials with No or Low Volitile Organic Chemicals, No Formaldahydes, etc., including materials to which you have know sensitivities. These can be in subflooring, shelving, carpets, plastics, insulation, paints, caulks, cleaners to name a few.
Another example is when there is a water-related problem. If there is a dank smell, or a dark stain somewhere, weakness or sagging in the floor, wet basement or crawlspace, or many other symptoms. There are so many variables that it is usually inefficient to 'shotgun' a fix... and if that doesn't work try something else. This is often much more expensive approach. And, it will not tell information that may bear on unexpected important issues like inadequate insulation or vapor barrier or ventilation, high degree of mold generating conditions, broken underground pipe, cracked boot or incorrectly installed flashing. I seen roofs replaced and not fix the cause of the water problem, so it can be very expensive.
Problems I encounter are often related to wasting of energy, water, and poor indoor air quality (IAQ). Hence, some people call this Green Construction. I have the ability to measure many indoor air components relevant to health and comfort. And I can assess and recomend both energy and water saving strategies. I can also determine relative energy efficiency of ones home and HVAC system.
This intelligence is vital as input to planning and design for even moderate remodeling projects. Diagnosis or assessment can yield a plan that might be implemented now or over time.

Crawl space vents should be left open in warm weather for ventilation and closed in freezing weather to reduce heat loss. |
