Why Us?
Below is what some customers say. I'm always happy to provide you contacts in your efforts to dig deeper in finding the right contractor match for your project. I have hundreds of homeowner and professional names and numbers of those I've worked with.
I've had some customer problems too, mostly in my earlier years of construction while 'learning' how to work with others. Some my fault, some theirs. But, even back then none have gone unresolved, and none chose to leave a negative comment.

"Dyck DeWid is a master at what he does. He worked with me in building the garage and room I wanted with the budget I had. Dyck is very creative with solutions to any building challenges, and did a great job in keeping us informed. One thing that was most impressive is the quality of the contractors he employs and the obvious high respect they have for him. I highly recommend him." January 16, 2009 Brossman

"This contractor finished a basement for us. His work ethic is unmatched in this industry. The subcontractors he chose for that job were all excellent. I felt like I had the best of the best working for the best. I had heard so many horror stories from friends about their building projects with other builders that I was cautious about hiring any contractor. Dyck Dewid breaks the mold for this industry. I've never seen anyone so focused on customer satisfaction, and pay such attention to detail. If you want a job done right, you really can just call just call him and relax. He will watch over every project like it was for his own house. That's not just a line. He really did that for us. He was on the job site very frequently and checked on the progress of every sub. He personally was there on the last day for clean up and final inspection, making sure I was happy with every last detail. I would recommend this contractor to anyone that wants the job done right the first time." M Beam. Raleigh, NC

Because its so hard to find and test out the Responsibility attribute in others, I should start selling it. I could get $840 per ounce- the price of gold. (just to allow others to witness it!).

To me, taking responsibility makes sense... Sure it can be scary if one isn't confident in their competency and abilities. But, I am confident in my capabilities and honor. This is what I get paid for... to provide a construction service and to be responsibile for what I do. And of course, it is what brings me more business too.
It seems so simple. Everyone on my team is personally responsibile for what they do. And I am responsible to you, the customer, for everything overall. This is what makes problems go away much more quickly and easily and prevents carelessness and aloofness from my team. And we learn from it. You can probably see by now, how I am wide open to explore and perfect my art.
Our Mission
To be 'real people' who are ready to do what is useful, maybe even spectacular for other 'real people'.
- To honor my promises and responsibilities with enthusiasm.
- To respect all people equally, workers, suppliers, inspectors, customers, and to call on our best effort, attention, creativity, understanding, & to teach and to learn.
- To enjoy what I'm doing & provide for others to do the same.
- To give superior value and service without gimmicks or tricks. Work shall be completed in a competent, professional and efficient manner.
- To remain up-to-date in knowledge of the latest technology and procedures, research, building code, health-related issues, energy efficiency, safety, accessibility and usability design remodeling.
- To surprise my customers and workers with the power of my intention to be honorable... e.g. providing refunds to cusotmers when we realize savings, and bonuses for outstanding work and for finding ways to save or improve our processes.
- To take responsibility for my errors and to learn from them. To hold all who work for me to this standard.
- To learn always, from everyone. To see the gifts in everyone.
- To be The Homeowner's Resource in the Wake County market.
- And if we are not a good 'match' pleasantly decline work without judgement or prejudice.

My people are experts and relish the most difficult problems, such as Water-Related Problems, Structural Problems, Usability and Design Problems. On the creative side my people are unsurpassed in brainstorming solutions that enhance, solve, reduce cost, make possible, repair, circumvent, and build.
Without people skills and solid relationships (of all participants) throughout a project a great outcome would be impossible. So, this is my team focus.... on you, the customer... and on great projects that make us all feel great for the accomplishment.
Standard Practices
Wow! Wait till I start telling you about my Standard Practices.
You might think I have some company from the past, because I care about the person. It's old fashioned. And yes, that's what I'm about. OK, this may appeal to you. But, what if it costs more to run a business this way? In other words, not being deceptive in making it 'appear' that I care. But, that I really do care... about you, about kids... about family life.... about the same things you care about. Maybe in the end it's not more expensive to do things this way. Maybe society just doesn't keep score right (they don't count the stress, frustration, extra time & inconvenience, humiliation, insult, lack of respect, intrusion, etc...)
So, this is a place holder for now. But, you can get the idea from other topic discussion.
I hope you'll engage with me about this topic.
Warranty
There are two levels of workmanship warranty for work we do. These are specified in detail in our Agreement.
1. 10 year roof and structural warranty
2. 1 year warranty, other work
These warranties are aimed at proving I take responsibility for the work we do. Exclusions to the warranty mainly refer to connections to 'others' work that may be substandard, or non-conventional, e.g. do-it-yourselfer or amature skill level, or when you instruct us to take short-cut or circumvention for the purpose of delaying a proper repair.
My aim is to educate homeowners about what to look for in maintining their homes. And I expect timely reporting of observed problems, even if problems related to my work are very rare. Being aware as a homeowner of what to look for helps you to be in contact with your home... acknowledging it as a changing part of the natural world. And it acknowledges that early detection of problems minimizes or eliminates major repair expense.
Summary: My warranty is a great way to generate business. Customers hang-on to my contact info for reassurance and call when something they see goes wrong.
My attorney told me I was crazy to have a 10 year warranty. But, I disagreed. And over 20 years, all but one or two of the warranty calls I've gotten are unrelated to my original work. So, this has been a source of new business for me, and an endorsement that my work is well designed and constructed. The one or two calls related to my work were resolved with surprising stories of actual benefits coming from it (Rutherford Dr. job and Lane St, job).
Please probe into this topic and ask questions. I welcome any and all discussion.

Tips
Hose Bibb Intelligence In cold weather be sure to disconnect your hoses from outdoor spigots to prevent bursting your water line. If it happens, you may not find out until you try to use the spigot. Listen for the added hiss of a leak during use, inside the wall. Much better to prevent it. More to it... is wall of spigot unheated, remote or partially heated? Does weather stay below freezing for more than a day (with no thaw)? Think!... and understand the physics. |
