What's the story about Dyck? Well, he sailed past 60 with one hand tied behind him, he once told me.   He sometimes fondly recalls his distant career background in field engineering and usability design.  But, he's come far from those days. Dyck is someone who asks a lot of questions and then listens--  who observes objectively and with sensitivity to the human element. When you call on him you'll get a Construction Professional,  even with  credentials (Wow)-- not someone who's selling.   As an expert with lots of diverse experience, his intent is to educate and to also learn, as appropariate.   As homeowners, when you make well-informed decisions,  you have more confidence and we earn more business and your trust.  Dyck thinks it's delightful when we all win.

So, Dyck want to say anything?

Managing my company and  in my everyday life my aim is to associate with people of character. This is even more important than most things I can think of because I depend on others.  I have come to welcome the stark reality that I am interdependent with others.

Being well-connected in the triangle area, a diverse  group of people I call "needles in haystacks"  have emerged. as my team  I am always on the look-out and testing for new people of character.  That includes suppliers, skilled workers, parofessionals, and customers too.  This is so even in my personal life with friends, doctors, mechanics,    etc..  People of character are those who are not afraid to take responsibility, for themselves and what they do or promise to do.  A good test is to watch how someone behaves when things are not going as planned, or when there is a problem.  It's easy to look good when it's smooth sailing.

My hope is that you'll find out how useful I can be to you; that you can rely on me either directly, or for a good lead. This is how I gain depth and diversity. Thankfully, this also benefits my business as it promotes work coming in.  Anything involving the Home is my territory.  And due to past family circumstances Health related aspects of construction have become another area of interest and knowledge.

Testimonials

" We first hired Dyck Dewid of Hands-On Contracting in the spring of 2003, to do a fairly significant amount of repair/structural work due to moisture problems from window leakage of several windows in our former house in Raleigh. This first involved careful diagnostic work to pinpoint where the leakage was actually occurring, and then some replacement of siding and structural work to replace a few rotted interior beams. We were very impressed with Dyck's forthright and respectful manner in discussing with us the extent of this job, along with his carefully thought-out estimate. We were also impressed with the capable people he employed to do the job. The quality of the repair work was excellent and done in a timely fashion. Dyck also hired a painting crew to paint the exterior of our Raleigh house once all the repairs were done. He would stop by at times during the painting process to check on the quality of the work. We were very pleased with the result. In March 2003 we decided to move to Chapel Hill, and when we found our new house, Dyck took the time to view the house with us, and was extremely helpful in advising us of potential repairs needed before we even made an offer. Once we bought the house, we hired Dyck's company to make some structural repairs as well as to do some remodeling (moving a wall over, new flooring and carpeting in several rooms, removing old acoustic ceiling tile from many of the rooms, and replacing with drywall ceilings). This was quite a big job, and Dyck and his crew completed the job in a very timely manner. We also used Dyck and his crew to do a few more repairs on the Raleigh house at the time of its sale, and Dyck was very accommodating in making sure all the work was accomplished within the necessary time frame before the scheduled closing. In every case we have been extremely pleased with the quality of work provided by Dyck and Hands-On Contracting. We think the fees that he has charged for each job have been fair and reasonable, and each time the work has been done within the agreed-upon schedule. Dyck's philosophy and practice is to do a good job for his customers, and he encourages us to call him if we ever have a problem with his work. For all these reasons, we highly recommend Dyck and Hands-On Contracting, and we would not hesitate to use his exceptional services as necessary in the future. "

Tips

Vent Intelligence

Crawl space ventilation is a complex problem in this area of NC.  Significant periods outside air is more humid than crawlspace air.  However, low dew points in the crawlspace can cause significant condensation water whether vents are open or closed.  And this can produce mold, rot, and termites.

If you think you have moisture problems in the crawlspace I suggest you understand the facts before making any investment.  This is especially true when replacing your HVAC system or ducting.

I plan to write an article on this topic in the near future or you can call me.
