Working with Hands-On Contracting

Home Remodeling, Renovations and Repair are my company’s specialty.  My prime territory is the Raleigh and Wake County Area.  And our success is really all about people and relationships. People get what they want, and they don't get what they don't want. Often customers are surprised how much our creativity weighs on an outcome.

You already expect that I am competent in planning and doing the work-- my company designations include: NC General Contractor, Certified Master Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler, Aging-In-Place design specialist, member National Association of Home Builders, Wake County Home Builders Association, Remoderor’s Council... that my whole team is insured with Liability and Workers Compensation... that all my trades have the required licensing too including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, engineering, architectural and any special trade I call-in on the job.

However, without people skills and a solid relationship throughout a project a great outcome would be impossible. So, this is my focus.... on my customer... and on great projects (even the simple one's) that make everyone feel great.

“This contractor finished a basement for us. His work ethic is unmatched in this industry. The subcontractors he chose for that job were all excellent. I felt like I had the best of the best working for the best. I had heard so many horror stories from friends about their building projects with other builders that I was cautious about hiring any contractor. Dyck Dewid breaks the mold for this industry. I've never seen anyone so focused on customer satisfaction, and pay such attention to detail. If you want a job done right, you really can just call just call him and relax. He will watch over every project like it was for his own house. That's not just a line. He really did that for us. He was on the job site very frequently and checked on the progress of every sub. He personally was there on the last day for clean up and final inspection, making sure I was happy with every last detail. I would recommend this contractor to anyone that wants the job done right the first time.” Miles B. Raleigh, NC

“Dyck DeWid is a master at what he does. He worked with me in building the garage and room I wanted with the budget I had. Dyck is very creative with solutions to any building challenges, and did a great job in keeping us informed. One thing that was most impressive is the quality of the contractors he employs and the obvious high respect they have for him. I highly recommend him.” Top qualities: Great Results , Expert , High Integrity. Martin in Raleigh, NC

Areas of Expertise:

My people are experts and relish the most difficult problems such as,

Water-Related Problems, Structural Problems, Usability and Design Problems.

On the creative side my people are unsurpassed in brainstorming solutions that enhance, solve, reduce cost, make possible, repair, build. Other areas address a market need:

  • Healthy Home Construction, Indoor Air Quality Assessment and Correction
  • Energy Efficiency, Green (Sustainable) Building
  • Diagnosis of the causes of Water-Related Problems, Structural, Roofs, and other difficult problems.
  • Aging-In-Place Design and Remodeling (CAPS) is a design process to make the home more usable, comfortable, and safe for everyone, but especially for those facing the challenges of aging.  It also aims to prevent accidents.  As age brings diminished sight, hearing, smell, balance, strength, agility, range-of-motion, etc., and increased sensitivity to temperature, indoor air quality (respiration) AIP Design can improve and prolong one's quality of life by allowing them to remain functional in their own home many years longer than otherwise.  I have handouts on this topic.

Injury is the primary root cause of older people needing to move to a retirement home against their wishes. And inadequate lighting is the primary cause of those injuries. Often, it is not difficult or expensive to make huge improvements in this area. It’s all about usability and design!

When you call on HOC you get me, Professional: not a Seller...   but an expert who is reporting and educating you with facts so that you can make informed decisions. You get someone who asks a lot of questions and then listens. You get someone who observes objectively and with sensitivity to the human element, because he cares.

My Business Family—People of Character:

Anything involving the home is my territory. I am well connected too, and always testing and looking for, people of character—that includes suppliers, skilled workers, and customers too. People of character are those who are not afraid to take responsibility, for themselves and what they do or promise to do. My hope is that you’ll find out how useful I can be, that you can rely on me either directly or for a good lead. This is how I gain depth and diversity. Thankfully, this also benefits my business as it promotes work coming in.

Testimonials

" I am quite pleased with the work that I received through this organization. Dyck Dewid has been very good working with me and helping me come up with ideas, I appreciate all of that. He is very upfront, very reliable, all of the right things that you are interested in when you are dealing with someone. I am especially pleased with the quality of the work and how he’s willing to think things out and talk over projects with me prior to really going forward. It makes you understand what’s going on and makes sure that we cover all of the bases. There is no question of what is going to be done and he gives me an opportunity to see some other approaches to the project, so that I really do get what I am interested in. Sometimes I might have trouble expressing what I am interested in, and so we certainly talk things out well before we go forward. He is certainly more than willing to work with me to make changes in direction if it looks as we progress that we need to, and we have on a couple of projects because of circumstances that were beyond our control. All in all I am very, very pleased with Mr. Dewid and Hands-On Contracting, no question about it. "

Tips

Vent Intelligence

Crawl space ventilation is a complex problem in this area of NC.  Significant periods outside air is more humid than crawlspace air.  However, low dew points in the crawlspace can cause significant condensation water whether vents are open or closed.  And this can produce mold, rot, and termites.

If you think you have moisture problems in the crawlspace I suggest you understand the facts before making any investment.  This is especially true when replacing your HVAC system or ducting.

I plan to write an article on this topic in the near future or you can call me.
