Home, your own earth environment: Make it healthy, comforting, fill it w your beauty.

Of Course, Bathrooms, Roof Repairs, Painting, Kitchens, But Also The Human Element!!

This site is intended to help you match-up what is important to you in hiring a contractor, showing what my company has to offer- including its principles, skills and history of integrity and care.  In addition to kitchen and bathroom remodeling, home improvement, and repair, I focus on the human elements of working with people... the creative aspects such as usable and aesthetic design.  And of course the technical aspects of right construction, e.g. green, sustainable, healthy, efficient.

Like in my business, I am continually making changes to this site to help improve it to deepen your understanding of my standard and often superior practices, processes and accomplishments.  This is another way of answering your question, does Hands-On Contracting have value to me?   This First Edition Web Site is now getting polished and becoming more complete.

My experience informs me in Renovating, Repairing, Remodeling Kitchens, Baths, Additions or any project, the most important consideration is that Customer and Contractor are a good match. It is from here we intentionally start building the foundation of a mutually beneficial project, and perhaps a long term relationship.  A solid foundation is no accident.

If you don't read much to start and want to just look at Before and After pictures Under Project Examples, that's just fine!   But, please come back later to read more.  You will find my communications are transparent-- nothing hidden from view.  And you should easily be able to check this out on the web and at the BBB or NC Attorney General.  The research is worth the effort, and since I don't have anything to hide I'm all for it!  In fact, the deeper you go, the more you will discover noteworthy accomplishments and accolades (that I am too modest to list, and don't even remember many).

Incidentally, with the growth of Social Media, it is becoming easier to truely 'see' someone or a business as they really are.  Tools like Inside919.com, LinkedIn.com, Dyck's Twitter.com, Facebook.com (Facebook business 'Pages'), and along with these, Blogs and Comments text is often pulled up by searching the web on a person's name.  So, though it's not impossible, it's becoming difficult for the less sincere, less competent, less honorable, and sharks to hide when you start putting all this together.

Testimonials

" We first hired Dyck Dewid of Hands-On Contracting in the spring of 2003, to do a fairly significant amount of repair/structural work due to moisture problems from window leakage of several windows in our former house in Raleigh. This first involved careful diagnostic work to pinpoint where the leakage was actually occurring, and then some replacement of siding and structural work to replace a few rotted interior beams. We were very impressed with Dyck's forthright and respectful manner in discussing with us the extent of this job, along with his carefully thought-out estimate. We were also impressed with the capable people he employed to do the job. The quality of the repair work was excellent and done in a timely fashion. Dyck also hired a painting crew to paint the exterior of our Raleigh house once all the repairs were done. He would stop by at times during the painting process to check on the quality of the work. We were very pleased with the result. In March 2003 we decided to move to Chapel Hill, and when we found our new house, Dyck took the time to view the house with us, and was extremely helpful in advising us of potential repairs needed before we even made an offer. Once we bought the house, we hired Dyck's company to make some structural repairs as well as to do some remodeling (moving a wall over, new flooring and carpeting in several rooms, removing old acoustic ceiling tile from many of the rooms, and replacing with drywall ceilings). This was quite a big job, and Dyck and his crew completed the job in a very timely manner. We also used Dyck and his crew to do a few more repairs on the Raleigh house at the time of its sale, and Dyck was very accommodating in making sure all the work was accomplished within the necessary time frame before the scheduled closing. In every case we have been extremely pleased with the quality of work provided by Dyck and Hands-On Contracting. We think the fees that he has charged for each job have been fair and reasonable, and each time the work has been done within the agreed-upon schedule. Dyck's philosophy and practice is to do a good job for his customers, and he encourages us to call him if we ever have a problem with his work. For all these reasons, we highly recommend Dyck and Hands-On Contracting, and we would not hesitate to use his exceptional services as necessary in the future. "

Tips

Vent Intelligence

Crawl space ventilation is a complex problem in this area of NC.  Significant periods outside air is more humid than crawlspace air.  However, low dew points in the crawlspace can cause significant condensation water whether vents are open or closed.  And this can produce mold, rot, and termites.

If you think you have moisture problems in the crawlspace I suggest you understand the facts before making any investment.  This is especially true when replacing your HVAC system or ducting.

I plan to write an article on this topic in the near future or you can call me.
